Lakota Cultural Resiliency Project
Promoting Healing for Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault
What will the Lakota Cultural Resiliency Project do?
Wicozani Oyate Support Team: The LCRP will empower - through culturally relevant training- a community of grassroots people, survivors, natural helpers, and service providers to launch a movement to support victims of sexual assaults. These grassroots Lakotas will be a team for deployment to provide immediate support to sexual assault victims in the Oglala Lakota Tribal Community’s outlying Districts. (stipends and compensation will be provided to the WO Team Members)
Host Sunka Wakan Un Wicozanikte (Healing with Horses) Camp each year for Sexual Assault Victims and their families.
Provide Healing Circles for victims/survivors of sexual assault (regardless of WHEN Lakotas became a victim- yesterday or 30 years ago!)
Healing circles are group gatherings where individuals support each other's healing through deep listening, compassion, cultural teachings, and shared experiences. They are often used in various contexts, including trauma recovery, grief support, and community building, providing a safe and supportive environment for participants to share their stories and journey towards healing.
